Abigail's Graduation Celebration(s)

Gone Fishing - not quite big enough for supper...

The "wisdom" of a child.

Garrett and I went to our room at the hotel and Garrett was all worried about how Dad would get in because we had the key. I said, "You just get your shower and I will open the door for him when he comes." He exclaimed, "But, you have to look through the peek hole first!!!" I asked him how old I was - "15?" - "No, 17. How old are you?" "8. But teenagers are sometimes... wait, are you a teenager??" "Yes." "Well, teenagers are crazy. They aren't smart like children are."

A Doughy Subject

Yesterday we decided we should bake a bit before summer got here.
After using about 25 pounds of flour and running 5 dishwasher loads, we ended up with 200 muffins, 71 cookies, 24 biscuits, and 17 loaves of bread!

Meet Scout

Since both Ladd and Loyal died unexpectedly and suddenly a few months apart last year, we've been without a dog. We're happy to have this little fellow now. He's mainly Black Lab, Great Pyrenees, and German Shepherd. So far he's been a great addition to our yard.

Trampoline Kite

The other night, the wind started blowing really hard. We felt it hit the house when it first started blowing - then heard a loud crash and the sound of glass breaking. The next morning we looked out the window and saw the trampoline upside down over the fence in the pasture. It had flown up in the air, hit the corner of the house, broke off the downspout and a couple of outside lights and then sailed across the yard several feet from its normal spot. We followed its path picking up springs from it as we went. The downspout was fixable, the lightbulbs replaceable and the trampoline is no worse for its flight across the yard.

Almost Spring! (This was a few weeks ago)

Spring Kittens

(Our cat Briar had 6 kittens a couple of months ago - we found homes for 5 of them and kept the one Lincoln is holding)

He could be a vet

Garrett: "I think our cat is going to have kittens really soon. She opened her mouth and I heard a bunch of 'meow, meow, meow' coming out of it."

The Entertainer for four violins and two violas

During the winter we try to do something as a family most evenings. Tuesday evening is normally game night, Thursday evening is Bible Study with a few others, and Friday evening is music night.  Monday evening Abigail is teaching Violin at her studio in Effingham and Wednesday evening all of the girls have practice with the Eastern Illinois University Orchestra.
This last Friday the girls found an arrangement of Scott Joplin's The Entertainer for a string quartet.  They experimented with it a little during the day Friday and treated Tamara and I to a little concert Friday evening. The boys tried to play along, but the music was a little too advanced for them.  So most of the day Saturday the girls worked together to arrange parts for the boys and to smooth out some of the rough places in the original arrangement.  Saturday evening they gave us another little concert.
It isn't perfect yet, but they are really enjoying playing it.  I love the way they have learned to work together and appreciate the wonderful music teachers they have had.  I love our home full of music!

Hot Pepper!

Today at lunch, Garrett was reading the label on our pepper shaker and declared, "We aren't supposed to be using this for pepper!"
The shaker says, "Not for hot products."
