2015 Vacation

The next few posts will be mostly pictures and a few snippets for our memory book.  We took a 2 week history vacation - Our kids' first, long, sight seeing, type of vacation.  We had a wonderful time - it just flew too fast.  We started our vacation by heading to Williamsburg, Virginia.

Our first stop was in Ohio.  We saw that we would be driving by the Bob Evan's farm and decided to stop to stretch our legs and look around the farm.  It happened to be a weekend that they were celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.  There were a couple of tents set up with some re-enactors of the Ohio 5th United States Colored Infantry Regiment.  One of the re-enactors was very knowledgeable about the history of that part of the military and talked to us for about 45 minutes about it.  There were horse/carriage rides and several things to look at.  It was a great place to stop.

We were surprised to find some Illinois connections at meeting in Virgina Sunday morning. We had a very nice lunch with them.

The drive through Virginia was beautiful.  This was at an overlook we stopped at.

We made a quick stop at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.  We packed in a lot of history on this trip!

Emily was the professional photo bomber of the trip. :)
