Yumm...you better be careful or the whole county's going to be on your doorstep at certain times of the day!! Would you mind sharing your crockpot oatmeal recipe? I've never heard of doing oats like that and it sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteWe thought about having you come over for supper after Gospel Meeting last night, Ruth, but the way the weather was we didn't think you would want to be out on the road any more than you had to.
ReplyDeleteThe trick to the oats in the crockpot is to get steel cut oats, not rolled oats. I get them at Beechy's in Arthur, but I think you can find them at some grocery stores and maybe W-mart. I just put in 4 cups of water per cup of steel cut oats, put in a little salt and turn on low overnight. The newer crock pots are sometimes too hot for this to work well, but I think you could also put water in the crockpot, put the oats and water in a bowl and set in the water and it would probably work. There are several recipes online for doctored up steel cut oats - with apples and spices that are good too.
Thanks! I've heard of steel cut oats but have never used them. I'll look for them and try this when Rob's home. Has your family had baked oatmeal? We really like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the thought of the invite, but the weather WAS a bit nasty last evening! It was a relief to pull back in the drive. Thankfully it cleared some before Rob had to make the drive to Chicago @ 3:30am today! He hit the sack pretty early last night.
